With Union Pacific’s Big Boy having just rolled through northern Indiana, two locomotives built by the American Locomotive Company have now turned wheels in the Hoosier State this week.
For the first time in many years, New York Central steam locomotive No. 3001 has rolled beyond the fence line at the National New York Central Railroad Museum.
Over the past several days, our crews have methodically rearranged the museum yard, assembled the outbound consist, and positioned No. 3001 for the next chapter in its journey.
While a departure date has not yet been announced, we’ll be working closely with the museum to host a public send-off celebration in the coming weeks before the locomotive begins its trip.
